16-year-old passenger dies after high-speed crash involving Tesla in Powell, 4 others injured

DELAWARE COUNTY, OH – A speeding Tesla was involved in a high-speed crash last Monday night, June 3, in Powell that ultimately claimed the life of a 16-year-old Dublin Jerome High School student, reports 10 WBNS.

Powell Police Department officials said the fatal wreck occurred at about 9:15 p.m., in the 3400 block of Club Way Court, at the Powell Grand Communities apartment complex.

A preliminary investigation found that another 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a Tesla carrying five other people, two of whom were reportedly in the vehicle’s trunk. The Tesla was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control after going over a speed bump. The vehicle collided with multiple other cars before striking part of a garage attached to a building.

One male passenger, 16, was rushed to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Another passenger who was transported to the hospital was last listed in stable condition, and three others received treatment at the scene. At this time, officials have not confirmed whether the decedent or the other hospitalized passenger were the occupants in the trunk.

The 16-year-old driver faces multiple charges, including “aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and reckless operation.”
